Chief Operating Officer - System
Joseph Bernard began his career in healthcare management in 2005 with Health Management Associates (HMA), Inc., as the Associate Administrator at Lehigh Regional Medical Center in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He then served as the Associate Administrator at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, and was subsequently promoted to Chief Operating Officer at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. In 2008, Mr. Bernard became the Chief Operating Officer at Physicians Regional Medical Center-Collier Blvd in Naples, Florida and subsequently transitioned to his current role in December 2011.
Mr. Bernard is responsible for overall hospital operations and service line development, and he oversees ancillary and support departments throughout the healthcare system. Prior to joining HMA, Mr. Bernard served in the United States Marine Corps primarily as a helicopter pilot. He retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel after more than 22 years of service.
Mr. Bernard has a master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of Cincinnati, a master's degree in management from Webster University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Mr. Bernard is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Military Officers Association of America. His community involvement includes: board member of the Greater Naples YMCA, member of the Collier County Public Safety Authority, board member of the Bonita Springs Estero Economic Development Council, member of the Government Affairs Committee (Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce). He is a graduate of the Leadership Collier Program, Class of 2011.
